Jewelry Spotting at the Rubin Museum of Art

March 25, 2016 1 min read

One of my favorite things to do is to visit art museums to sample the jewelry in statuary and paintings. There are few better places to do this than at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York.

The Rubin has an amazing collection of Himalayan and Buddhist art, which I always appreciate for the diverse types of adornment—bold, flowering necklaces, armbands, and impossibly heavy earrings.

Here are some of the pictures from my museum visit. Enjoy!

Many arms means many accessorizing opportunities!

Pearl embroidery on a tapestry

The multi-chain necklaces on Bodhisattva portraits are always so elegant.

Belted jewelry is seen quite often on Buddhist images.

Now how would that work, exactly?

A necklace of human heads, a reminder of our morality.

Gravity-defying earrings

I love the expression on this one
